Portland dethroned as top city for vegans, vegetarians, WalletHub says
PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Portland is no longer the best city in the U.S. for vegans and vegetarians, according to a new WalletHub report.
In 2023, the personal finance website named Portland the best place for anyone living a vegan or vegetarian lifestyle in the U.S.
However, two major cities have usurped Portland on the list.
Los Angeles and Orlando, Fla. took the top two spots on the list, respectively. Portland, meanwhile, sank to third best in the U.S.
WalletHub created the rankings by comparing issues like grocery costs, the number of restaurants with vegan or vegetarian options, and the number of salad shops per capita.
“Certain U.S. cities offer plentiful, inexpensive options for budget-conscious herbivores, while others lag behind,” the WalletHub report reads. “To determine the best and cheapest places for a plant-based diet, WalletHub compared the 100 largest U.S. cities across 17 key indicators of vegan and vegetarian friendliness.”
