Key statistic shows just how dominant Tottenham were against Brentford
In their win over Brentford on Saturday, Tottenham Hotspur registered the highest xG of any side in the Premier League this season.
Spurs have been better than their results
Even though Tottenham have come in for plenty of criticism over the past few weeks, in light of back-to-back defeats against Newcastle United and Arsenal, Ange Postecoglou will feel that his side’s performances have been quite good.
In terms of metrics like possession, chance creation and shots, the Lilywhites have been up there with the best in the league. It is only some poor finishing and decision-making in the final third that has let them down this season.
While their performance against the Bees was not perfect, Postecoglou’s men showed in the game just how devastating they can be when they are at their best going forward.
Thomas Frank’s men struggled to cope with wave after wave of Spurs attacks, particularly in the first half, with the home side emerging deserved 3-1 winners.
Spurs recorded a league-high xG
According to Optus Sport, Tottenham had an xG of 3.52 against the West London club, scoring three actual goals in the process.
This xG is the highest that any side have had in a single game across the Premier League this season.
Spurs Web Opinion
There are still concerns about Tottenham defensively and the jury remains out on whether Ange’s methods can prove successful at this level.
However, one has to be blind not to be able to see the building blocks that the Australian is putting in place, with the 59-year-old trying to build a side that would blow opposition sides out of the park consistently.
