Alan Shearer is confident one Spurs star will have a good season
Alan Shearer has no doubts that James Maddison is set to have a great season, heaping praise on the Tottenham man following his showing against Brentford.
James Maddison was Man of the Match
While Tottenham had many good performers from back to front against the Bees, one player undoubtedly stood head and shoulders above the rest.
Maddison was the architect of most of the good moves that Ange Postecoglou’s men put together, with the attacking midfielder conducting play from a left-sided eight role.
Brentford struggled to get near him when he picked up the ball in Spurs; own half as the 27-year-old glided past plays with ease on multiple occasions.

The former Leicester man would have been disappointed that some of his teammates could not finish off the chances he laid on a plate for them, but he took matters into his own hands in the 85th minute, scoring his first goal of the season and putting the game to bed.
Speaking about Maddison, Shearer told The Rest Is Football podcast: “He’s a good player, I don’t think you’d get many complaints, would you, from Spurs fans about him being a good player?
“We know what he’s capable of. He’s so intelligent and great on the ball and can make that final pass and he’ll have a good season.”

If Maddison continues to perform at this level, Tottenham will be a hard team to stop. Once Son finds his finishing boots, we will likely blow a few teams away this season, particularly at home.
The problems, of course, often come at the other end of the pitch. Conceding within 25 seconds is a bit of a joke for any team in the league, let alone one with Champions League aspirations.
