Iran willing to lay down weapons if Israel does the same, says Pezeshkian

Masoud Pezeshkian, the President of Iran, made a controversial statement during an interview with senior media executives in the United States, stating that Iran is willing to lay down all its weapons to reduce tensions in the region.

In this interview, which has become a subject of satire on social media, Pezeshkian said, “We are ready to put aside all our weapons, provided that Israel also puts its [weapons] aside.”

The interview took place on Monday, September 23, in New York, and the audio file of the conversation, widely shared on social media, was released earlier this morning.

During his conversation with international media leaders, Pezeshkian remarked, “An international organization can come and ensure the region’s security. But that’s not even necessary; we know how to secure our own safety.”

His contradictory statements have turned him into a subject of satire across social media platforms.

According to Iranian media, earlier, officials from Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs had denied the Bloomberg report concerning Pezeshkian’s remarks.

Pezeshkian also claimed that Iran does not seek war: “I’m not well-versed in politics, and I don’t know how to lie. That’s why I want people to speak and act honestly with me… by the elders and prophets, we are humans too, and we are not warmongers.”

The ongoing conflict between Palestine and Israel remains a critical issue, with repeated cycles of violence causing immense suffering. Despite international calls for ceasefires and negotiations, both sides continue to engage in hostilities.

Iran, a vocal supporter of the Palestinian cause, often critiques Israeli actions in the region, adding complexity to the broader Middle Eastern dynamics.

Similarly, the tensions between Lebanon’s Hezbollah and Israel continue to escalate, drawing the attention of regional and global powers. Iran’s role in supporting Hezbollah adds another layer to the ongoing conflict.

President Pezeshkian’s statements, though mocked for their contradictions, reflect Iran’s broader diplomatic stance of portraying itself as a peace-seeking nation despite its deep involvement in regional conflicts.
