SpikeOne of the things that really came across clearly - which I guess a lot of people would not have known, is that a lot of the miners were not in favour of the strikes and didn't vote for them.
Scargill flat out refused to have a national ballot, you don’t need to be a rocket scientist to figure out why.
The only region, from what I can tell, that had a proper organised ballot was Notts, and they voted overwhelmingly to carry on working.
Scargill came across appallingly.
Because he was/is an appalling human being. The enemy within, to quote a line attributed (but never actually spoken in public) to a much finer lady than me.
