Main Nicosia artery to close for works

A section of Athalassa avenue in Nicosia will be closed for roadworks between 9pm and 5.30am on Wednesday and Thursday, the public works department announced, asking motorists “to show understanding and follow the temporary road signs and police instructions”.

On Wednesday, the closure will affect the section of Athalassa avenue from the traffic-light-controlled junction with Akropolis avenue to the junction with Michalakis Kousoulides street in Strovolos.

Drivers heading towards Nicosia are advised to use Akropolis avenue, while those heading towards Limassol should take Iosif Hadjiosif and Spyros Kyprianou avenues.

On Thursday, the closure will start from the traffic-light-controlled junction of Athalassa avenue and Michalakis Kousoulides street until the junction of Athalassa avenue and Iosif Hadjiosif avenue.

Drivers heading towards Strovolos should follow the alternative route via Michalakis Kousoulides, Georgios Stokkou, and Andreas Avraamides streets.

In all cases, temporary signage will be in place to ensure smooth traffic flow in the affected areas.
