Game Chat: Giants vs. Diamondbacks, 9:40 PM ET

The Mets enter Monday fresh off a Sunday Night Baseball victory against the Philadelphia Phillies, capping a series win. However, the Atlanta Braves also won in Miami, as did the San Diego Padres against the Chicago White Sox on Sunday. The Milwaukee Brewers defeated the Arizona Diamondbacks, coming behind 8-0 to win 10-9. The D-backs are the only NL team playing Monday, whereas the Mets, Braves and Padres have an off day.

Entering the day, the Padres (90-66) hold the first Wild Card spot, ahead three games. The Mets (87-69) and D-backs (87-69) are tied for the second Wild Card spot. The Braves (85-71) are the odd man out looking in, trailing both the Mets and D-backs by two games for a Wild Card spot. The Mets hold the tiebreaker against the Padres and D-backs, but the season series against the Braves is currently tied. The winner of the upcoming series in Atlanta will decide who holds the tiebreaker.

After a series win in Milwaukee and a crushing loss on Sunday, the D-backs look to right the ship. They’re in desperate need of every win up until the season ends. The D-backs are 6-4 against the Giants in 2024. Birdsong was the losing pitcher in the September 4 matchup, a 6-4 D-backs win.
