Stock market today: World shares gain as China unveils moves to aid economy

World shares have advanced, with Chinese markets logging the biggest gains after Beijing announced a slew of measures to support the faltering economy. Shares in Hong Kong and Shanghai jumped 4%. Oil prices surged nearly $2 and U.S. futures also were higher. On Monday, U.S. stock indexes breached new heights with the S&P 500 gaining 0.3% to edge past its record set on Thursday. The Dow Jones Industrial Average added 0.1% to its own all-time high set on Friday, and the Nasdaq composite gained 0.1%. Tesla helped drive the market and eliminated the last of its formerly sharp loss for the year so far.
