Tropic Ocean Airways Completes 100th Lifesaving Mission in the Bahamas

It’s the trip you don’t want to take, but being able to can mean the difference between life and death. In June, Tropic Ocean Airways, the world’s largest commercial amphibious airline, celebrated its 100th successful lifesaving mission across the Bahamas.

Seaplanes Reach the Most Inaccessible Places

“Our seaplanes make it possible to reach patients in the most inaccessible places,” said Rob Ceravolo, Chief Executive Officer of Tropic Ocean Airways and a U.S. Navy TOPGUN instructor. He founded the company in 2009. “When a medical incident occurs, every minute counts. Our ability to land directly on water ensures that patients receive timely, lifesaving care.”

A Fleet Designed for Quick Responses

Tropic Ocean Airways operates a fleet of Cessna Grand Caravan EX Amphibians. These aircraft are equipped with essential medical gear and can land on both runways and water. This versatility allows for rapid responses to medical emergencies in remote locations such as islands, cruise ships, resorts, and yachts.

Crew and Equipment for Life-Saving Missions

Tropic Ocean Airways keeps a crew and aircraft on standby, prepared to launch within two hours of an emergency call. Each mission is staffed by two FAA-certified pilots and medical professionals. This team includes registered nurses, physicians, respiratory therapists, critical care paramedics, and pediatric specialists. They bring the latest medical technology to provide advanced services like ventilator management, ECMO transport, continuous cardiac monitoring, invasive line monitoring, and full bed-to-bed services.

Comprehensive Medical Services

In addition to emergency missions, Tropic Ocean Airways offers other medical services, such as medical travel companion services, mobile concierge doctors, and pre- and post-surgery flights. The service is available on-demandand does not require a membership.
