The Pioneer Woman’s Chicken Tot Pie Might Just Be the Easiest Way To Get Your Kids To Eat Veggies
Getting kids to eat their veggies is a never-ending adventure for parents, and Ree Drummond (aka, The Pioneer Woman) has an interesting new recipe that might help. It’s a classic chicken pot pie — but topped with tater tots instead!
“You’ve had a chicken pot pie but what about a chicken TOT pie?! This one is a game-changer, @ThePioneerWoman!” a new video on Food Network’s Instagram was captioned.
In the clip, Drummond walks us through her recipe, which she praises as “so good.” Start by melting butter in a saucepan. She uses store-bought condensed celery soup to make the casserole filling, shredded rotisserie chicken, and a mix of frozen veggies. Although you can use any vegetables, Drummond uses carrots, peas, and corn like a classic chicken pot pie. After a few more ingredients, Drummond pours the whole thing in a baking dish. Now, she’s ready for the tots!
She arranges the slightly thawed frozen tater tots in tightly packed rows to cover the top like a layer of fried potato goodness. Then, just throw it in the oven! It’s so, so easy. “We all know you can cook gourmet meals, so don’t put pressure on yourself!” Drummond says in the clip, praising the simplicity of this recipe. It’s especially great for busy weeknights.
People loved this recipe in the comments. “I’m think she’s speaking to the working mom that wants to put something together super fast,” one person wrote. “There are a lot of chefs out there demoing high-end recipes. This lady sells her merch at Wal-mart and is giving different ideas to people who want it cook a quick meal for their family on a lower budget.”
“I make this a few times each winter. Sooooo good!!” someone else wrote.
It’s the perfect mix of salty tots and creamy chicken pot pie, so the chances are high that your kids will actually eat more than just one bite! Even if they don’t, it’s a yummy comfort food for you this fall as the temperature starts to drop.
