Queen’s Park suffered defeat in a return to Ochilview Park as visitors Motherwell ran out 6-0 winners in their ScottishPower WPL 1 clash.

Ellie Kane returned to captain the side after two weeks on the sidelines saw her miss both away games against Glasgow City and Hibernian. Olivia King featured in the starting lineup again this week marking her 20th appearance for the club. Craig Joyce made three changes to the side that faced Hibernian last Sunday with Emma Craig, Nicole Cairney and Kane coming in to replace Ami Robertson, Morgan Graham and Jordan McLintock.

Motherwell looked to convert their first chance of the game with four minutes played but the well-taken header was flagged for offside. Sarah Gibb came close minutes later but her low cross across the box was unable to find an outstretched leg and went wide.

A late challenge from Murron Cunningham allowed referee Chris McLaughlin to point to the spot and Laura Berry was able to convert the penalty despite Lauren McGregor getting a glove to it as it was hit high into the left corner.

Motherwell looked to double their tally quickly as Bailley Collins came close after a great solo run but Lauren McGregor made a fine save to prevent the chance becoming anything more.

With 20 minutes on the clock, Murron Cunningham’s great cross over to Nicole Cairney was almost enough to spark a response but The Spider’s number 7 was unable to find anyone inside the box to convert.

Louisa Boyes was the next visitor in line to test McGregor after taking her first-time shot well via Collins’ well-placed cross but it was a great save to deny the chance.

Emma Craig tried to counter immediately after driving the ball forward from midfield but her shot was blocked by the back of the Motherwell defender.

Just before the half-hour mark, Laura Berry doubled both her side’s and her individual tally for the day with a well-hit strike from just inside the box.

Collins came knocking again minutes later but her cross-turned-shot rattled the crossbar before going behind. However, Bailley Collins finally found herself rewarded for her constant attacking threat as she found the bottom corner with a composed finish from 15 yards out.

Motherwell found themselves a fourth, securing a quickfire double as Lauren McGregor’s great initial block fell to the feet of Collins who did well to find the back of the net.

Half Time: Queen’s Park 0-4 Motherwell

Motherwell looked set to make an early impression on the second half but Hannah Cunningham muscled the ball away from the attacker to end any potential threat.

Craig Joyce made a triple chance at the 56th minute mark with Nicole Cairney, Ciara Bonner and Emma Craig coming off to be replaced by Morgan Graham, Rachel Wright and Ami Robertson.

A minute later, Jenna Penman found herself in a decent position which allowed her to lay the ball off to Amy Sharkey who hit her pass across the goalmouth but no one could reach it. The momentum continued to fall in favour of Motherwell as Bailley Collins looked set to seal her hat-trick but again she was denied by a save from Lauren McGregor.

The Spiders found themselves on the front foot again but Megan Quigley couldn’t get her shot away after making a great run down the left-hand side.

Laura Berry completed her hat-trick in the 69th minute with a well-taken shot that found its way into the bottom corner increasing the margin to five.

Ami Robertson almost managed to pull one back for the hosts as she troubled the goalkeeper from close range but Rebecca Cameron was quick to grab it again after spilling it from her gloves.

With a minute left in regulation time, Laura Berry netted her fourth of the afternoon and sealed victory for her side.
