“Try and keep him quiet”: Pat Cummins warns Australian team about this India star
India started their Test cricket season strong with a hammering 280-run victory over Bangladesh in Chennai. The 2 teams will lock horns for the second and final Test of the series on September 27 and it will take place in Kanpur. This will be followed by a three-Test series at home against New Zealand before the Border-Gavaskar series starts on November 22.
The Australian team will be keeping a close eye on Team India’s performance and will also be looking to identify the weaknesses of particular players. Among the many focal points of the first Test was Rishabh Pant.
The Indian wicketkeeper-batter made a stunning return to red-ball cricket by scoring a century and equaling MS Dhoni’s record for the most Test hundreds score by an Indian wicketkeeper. Pant, who was the in-form batter for India for nearly 2 years before his car crash in 2022, seemed to have simply picked up from where he left off.
Australia captain Pat Cummins likened Pant to Travis Head and Mitchell Marsh in his own side.
“I think those guys, you know that they are going to be aggressive, take the game on. Like Rishabh Pant might play a reverse slap and it is an incredible shot and that’s just part of who he is,” Cummins said on Star Sports.
“He’s someone that has a big influence in a couple of series and we have go to try and keep him quiet,” Cummins added.
The first match of the Border-Gavaskar series is et to be played in Perth while the next 4 Tests will be played in Adelaide, Brisbane, Melbourne and Sydney respectively.
