Report reveals date Trump plans to return to site of PA assassination plot
Former President Donald Trump has made it official: He's returning to the site where he was nearly assassinated.
According to NBC News, which cited three anonymous campaign sources, Trump arranged the rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, for Oct. 5, one month to the day before Election Day.
Trump previously advertised the event, calling it the "rally of the century" in an August text message to supporters, and adding: "I'm returning to Butler & I want to share this moment with YOU." He said at the time that it would be in October, but further details weren't immediately released.
In the first assassination attempt, which took place in July, Thomas Matthew Crooks sneaked onto a warehouse roof overlooking the rally in Butler, took aim with an AR-15 style rifle, and fired several shots at Trump. A bullet grazed his ear, causing a minor injury. A rallygoer was shot dead and a couple more were wounded.

The incident sparked a firestorm of controversy around the effectiveness of the Secret Service, which reportedly received warnings of suspicious activity long before Trump was in immediate danger. The director of the agency resigned, a number of agents have been placed on leave, and there is an ongoing investigation into the matter.
The NBC report comes after a man was charged in connection with a second assassination plot on Trump at his country club in South Florida. In that incident, the gunman hid for 12 hours in a bush and wasn't able to get Trump in his line of sight.
