'Don’t think that’s an issue for you': GOP Senate candidate jabs women over 50 on abortion

New video shows an Ohio Republican Senate candidate laughing as he questions women who say they plan to vote based on candidates' stances on abortion rights.

Bernie Moreno was recorded on video Friday at a town hall in Warren County, Ohio, in which he slammed suburban women who say abortion access will define how they vote, NBC4i reported.

"You know the left has a lot of single-issue voters," Moreno in the clip. Sadly, by the way, there’s a lot of suburban women, a lot of suburban women that are like, ‘Listen, abortion is it. If I can’t have an abortion in this country whenever I want, I will vote for anybody else.’ … OK, little crazy by the way, but — especially for women that are like past 50 — I’m thinking to myself, ‘I don’t think that’s an issue for you.'”

Reagan McCarthy, a spokesperson for Moreno’s campaign tried to clarify the candidate's comments, telling the TV station in a statement that Moreno was "clearly making a tongue-in-cheek joke" about incumbent Democratic opponent Sen. Sherrod Brown and how the media "like to pretend that the only issue that matters to women voters is abortion."

“Bernie’s view is that women voters care just as much about the economy, rising prices, crime and our open southern border as male voters do, and it’s disgusting that Democrats and their friends in the left-wing media constantly treat all women as if they’re automatically single issue voters on abortion who don’t have other concerns that they vote on.”

The report comes days after the MAGA Republican waded into another political firestorm.

This month, Moreno also called for revoking the protected status of legal Haitian migrants in Springfield, Ohio, and to have them deported to the country. Those remarks echoed similar calls from Donald Trump and running mate, J.D. Vance, who pushed a baseless and racist conspiracy theory that Haitian immigrants were abducting and eating peoples' pets.
