Delcambre school honored with National Blue Ribbon from U.S. Dept. of Education

DELCAMBRE, La. (KLFY) -- A school in Iberia Parish has been recognized with a national award by the U.S. Department of Education.
Delcambre Elementary School is one of seven schools in Louisiana to receive a National Blue Ribbon.
According to the Education Department website, the National Blue Ribbon Program "recognizes outstanding public and non-public elementary, middle, and high schools based on their overall high academic achievement or success in closing the achievement gap among diverse groups of students."
“Being named a National Blue Ribbon School is a remarkable achievement that exemplifies a commitment to academic achievement,” said Louisiana State Superintendent of Education Cade Brumley. “I applaud the students, educators, and families of these schools for setting a high bar of excellence.”
In the school's profile on the USDoE website, the department said the honor reflects on the entire town of Delcambre, which was devastated by Hurricane Rita in 2005 and Hurricane Ike in 2008.
"The success of Delcambre Elementary, a Title 1 school that educates 488 students in pre-K through 5th grade, gave the residents of the town a strong reason to stay," the profile reads. "The school's commitment to ensuring that each student reaches their fullest potential, continuing deep rooted traditions, and fostering a love for the town helped the community sustain its population. The success of Delcambre Elementary has a direct correlation to the growth and sustainability of the town of Delcambre and this is a driving force for the school’s continued success."

- Sterlington – Sterlington Elementary School, Ouachita Parish Schools
- Woodworth – Caroline Dorman Junior High School, Rapides Parish Schools
