Mother of teen murder suspect says home surveillance video proves her son is innocent

LAFAYETTE, La. (KLFY) -- The mother of a 17-year-old accused of murder in connection with the fatal shooting at a Lafayette barbershop says her son is innocent and home video surveillance can prove it.

Jeffrey Broussard was the first of three suspects arrested in connection with the deaths of 19-year-old Quincy Duhon Jr. and 48-year-old Johnny Trailer Jr. The shooting occurred around 9 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 31, at a barbershop on Louisiana Avenue between Mudd Avenue and Simcoe Street.

Broussard and the two other suspects, 17-year-old Shylon Mouton and 23-year-old Abram Landry, each face two counts of first-degree murder.

Broussard's mother said authorities have arrested the wrong person and that home security video from a relative's house can prove he has a solid alibi.

She said her son arrived at his grandmother's around 4 a.m., and the video shows him entering the home. Later, Broussard is seen going out front to sit with friends just before noon.

"Yeah, he didn't have a shirt on, and he had the same joggers on that he went into the house with," Broussard's mother said.

The mother said her heart goes out to the families of the victims, but she is determined to prove her son wasn't there.

"Once we said we had video footage proving he had a tight alibi, that's when they (the police) started arresting other people," Broussard's mother said.

Broussard's aunt, his godmother, wants the shooter caught and doesn't want her nephew implicated in a crime she says he didn't commit.

"I pray they do find them because the family deserves that, but my nephew he also deserves justice," Broussard's aunt said.
