Rensselaer man arrested after crash in Schodack

SCHODACK, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- The Schodack Police Department is investigating a crash on September 20 that resulted in the arrest of one of the involved drivers. William Bertrand, 61, of Rensselaer, is facing multiple charges.

On Friday, police say Bertrand and another driver were both traveling at a high rate of speed on Route 9J near Stony Point Road in Castleton when the two vehicles collided. The crash reportedly caused the second motorist to veer off the road into a nearby marsh.

According to Schodack Police, the second driver was taken to Albany Medical Center via ambulance and was released shortly after being treated. Bertrand was taken into custody as a result of the incident and now faces the following charges:

  • Two counts of making a terroristic threat
  • Criminal mischief
  • Driving while intoxicated
  • Several vehicle and traffic infractions

Bertrand was arraigned at Schodack Town Court before being remanded to the Rensselaer County Jail. The investigation remains ongoing.
