Pittsfield Police report increase of soliciting complaints

PITTSFIELD, Mass., (NEWS10)-- The Pittsfield Police Department is warning residents about increased complaints involving individuals knocking on doors attempting to solicit solar panels. Police said they have received reports from community members being pressured into committing to purchasing solar products.

Police said the individuals were using aggressive tactics and not taking no for an answer. Law enforcement said anyone going door-to-door must have and display a state-issued Hawkers and Peddlers license and a permit from the Pittsfield Police Department specific to soliciting and canvassing.

Anyone attempting to solicit products without proper documentation with the state or local police is subject to fines and their permit taken away. Pittsfield Police also urges residents to call the department's non-emergency line at (413) 448-9700 if community members experience issues with individuals going door-to-door.
