Police calling for information around fatal accident

Police are calling for any information regarding a fatal traffic accident early of Monday on the Nicosia-Troodos road, in the Atsas area.

Morphou traffic police are investigating the conditions under which the accident happened, in which 60-year-old Lambros Mavrommatis, a Lakatamia resident, was killed.

The man was driving towards Troodos when, under circumstances still being investigated, his vehicle collided with a car driven by a 20-year-old man. Two other passengers, both aged 21, were in the second car.

Mavrommatis was trapped inside his vehicle and the fire department was called to free him. He was then transported by ambulance to the Nicosia general hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead.

The driver and passengers of the second car were taken to Kyperounta hospital for treatment and were discharged shortly afterwards.
