U18s Report: Hibs 2 Dundee 0

0

The wee Hibees continued their good form with a 2-0 victory over Dundee in a friendly match at HTC at the weekend.

Dean Cleland grabbed a brace in the 2-0 victory which was a good run-out for the lads on Friday evening.

Initially, the wee Hibees were meant to have a ‘free week’ but the Club organised a fixture with Dundee to help progress the lads and get more minutes into the legs of some of the younger players, including Cole Shankland and Alasdair Burns who both started the match.

Darren McGregor’s side got off to a positive start, Josh McDonald did well to win the ball back in the middle of the pitch before switching it to Jamie McMurdo. The winger beat his man before he was wiped out, with the ball dropping to Dean Cleland who fired his shot into the bottom corner.

Just after the half-hour mark, we doubled our advantage with Dean Cleland grabbing his second goal of the evening. Left-back Logan Jimenez did brilliantly down the left-hand side committing several Dundee defenders before floating a cross towards the back post. Dean Cleland met it well, heading his effort low into the bottom corner.

Josh McDonald struck the bar twice in two minutes as we looked to add a third goal before the interval, the first from a free-kick before latching onto a cut-back at the edge of the box – curling another effort off the woodwork.

We had a couple of chances to extend our lead in the second half, but both defences came out on top in the second period with the Hibees running out comfortable 2-0 winners.

Up next we return to CAS Elite League duty as we host Hamilton this Friday at HTC (27 September).

Hibs Starting XI: Mallon, Shankland, McGrath, Cleland, Buckley, McDonald, McMurdo, Davidson, Beaton, Jimenez, Burns.
