Funny reason why Maddison had to apologise to his Mum for his celebration
James Maddison does not know why he decided to take off his shirt after scoring against Brentford.
How did Maddison get on against Brentford?
Maddison was the best player on the pitch on Saturday at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and he made sure that the Lilywhites walked away with the three points this time, scoring in the 85th minute to put the game beyond Thomas Frank’s men.
The goal was nothing more than what the 27-year-old deserved as he was pulling the strings all game for Spurs, helping open up the Bees’s defence time and again and playing incisive through balls.
The England international was unlucky not to get an assist but decided to take matters into his own hands late on, producing a composed lob past Mark Flekken after being played through on goal by Son Heung-min.
Why did Maddison apologise to his Mum?
Maddison took his shirt off during the celebrations and was booked for his troubles but the former Leicester man has confessed that his mom, who was sitting in the crowd, did not like it.
He told Spurs Play: “I don’t know why I took my top off.
“My mum just text me actually and said, ‘Keep your top on next time because I’ve got you in my fantasy and I got minus one for the yellow card’. So sorry mum.”
Spurs Web Opinion
Maddison has been excellent right from the first game of the season but attacking players usually need to score goals for their contribution to be recognised by the wider public and the media, which is why he will be delighted to have got on the scoresheet.
Let’s hope he can keep this up for a full season this time. It was a pity to see his campaign impacted by a bad injury last year, but I believe he can be a lot more consistent this time around.
