Takeaways from the Bears' loss to the Colts

0

Three takeaways from the Bears' ugly loss in Indianapolis:

Walk, don’t run

Bears running back D’Andre Swift ran 13 times for 20 yards, including a loss of 12 on fourth-and-goal from the 1 in the second quarter. Swift, whom the Bears gave a three-year, $24 million deal in March, has run 37 times for 68 yards this season. Take away the 20-yard run when he hurdled a defender in Week 1, though, and he’s run 36 times for 48 yards — an average of 1.3 yards.

Turnover time

Rookie quarterback Caleb Williams threw two interceptions — bringing his season total to four — and fumbled in the fourth quarter with a chance to march down the field and take the lead. Former Bears quarterback Justin Fields had only two, two-interception games in all of 2023, and only two in all of 2022.

Low ratings

Remarkably inaccurate, Colts quarterback Anthony Richardson posted a passer rating of 39 — and still managed to win the game. Since the 1970 AFL-NFL merger, the Bears have held an opposing team to a passer rating of 40 or less 99 times. They are 83-15-1 in those games. Before Sunday, their most recent loss in such a game came in 1994.
