Red Sox’s Alex Cora Shares Key Update On Rafael Devers’ Injury

Rafael Devers is out for the rest of the Red Sox's season, but he might not be on a long road back to 100% health.

Devers was placed on the 10-day injured list Saturday due to shoulder inflammation. The star third baseman actually has been dealing with nagging ailments to both shoulders this campaign, which will see Devers play his fewest games since 2018. But as Alex Cora revealed to the media Sunday morning, the three-time All-Star won't need to go under the knife this offseason.

"The left one is the one that really bothers him as far as like the swing," Cora told reporters, per MassLive. "It's been going on since spring training. ... Inflammation. Just stay away from him. I think rest will do the work. There's no structural damage. There's no talk of surgery or anything. It's just rest. Obviously there's stuff he needs to do in the offseason to get back to normal."

With the Red Sox virtually out of the running for a playoff spot, it made sense to give Devers a head start on his recovery. And judging from Cora's remarks, it seems like the Red Sox fully expect their franchise cornerstone to be ready to go at the start of 2025 spring training.
