Glasgow City 3 Hibs Women 0

Hibs would lose out at Petershill Park to Glasgow City despite a battling defensive display.

Emily Whelan opened the scoring within the first minute before Sophia Maatta and Rammie Noel scored late in the second half.

Grant Scott made two changes to the side that bested Queen’s Park last weekend, with full-backs Lauren Doran-Barr and Stacey Papadopoulos slotting into the team.

Opening proceedings with a less than auspicious start, City opened the scoring in a flash thanks to Whelan's distant effort. Gaining possession, City’s number 11 thundered a fine shot into the roof of Noa Schumacher’s net.

The travelling support offered their vocal services, which seemed to settle the side after the early setback, with Hibs battling well in the midfield to regain the strength to battle forward.

City would continue to have the momentum despite lengthy treatment stoppages to Schumacher and Eilidh Adams, who were both able to continue, slowing the game down.

Struggling to contain the hosts before the end of the half, it fell to Linzi Taylor to take drastic action as she brought down Lisa Evans on the edge of the area - but the ensuing dangerous, twirling free kick was well saved by Schumacher.

Racing on the counter after the break, Tegan Bowie’s own ferocious effort was well saved by Lee Gibson after a brilliant run and flick by Doran-Barr brought the ball forward into a dangerous area on the left flank.

Just as the away side looked to take the game by the scruff of the neck, City had plenty to chew on - especially after scoring what they thought was their second goal.

Nicole Kozlova looked to have poked the home side into a 2-0 goal lead after a poor defensive pass, but the fourth official defiantly raised their flag to deny the home team's two-goal cushion.

The second 45 brought about much more positivity from Hibs, but little remained in the interests of goal-mouth action. Schumacher denied former Hibee Amy Muir with a terrific low block come 70 minutes and did so again, stopping Brenna Lovera this time round.

Scoring her 50th goal for Hibs the week before, Adams looked to get involved in the goals again. The striker was brought down by Samantha Van Diemen on the edge of the area before she could strike at goal, though Poppy Lawson’s subsequent dangerous set-piece stung the hands of Gibson and was held.

Instead, City scored a second through Maatta. A ball across the face of goal was palmed away initially by Schumacher, but Maatta was on hand to tap in from behind the Hibs ‘keeper.

Substitute Rammie Noel slotted home late in stoppage time to grab City's third and final goal after the hosts caught out Hibs on a quick counter.
