Bears, QB Caleb Williams end opening drive vs. Colts with missed field goal

INDIANAPOLIS — A few things looked better for the Bears and quarterback Caleb Williams on their opening drive against the Colts on Sunday, but it ended without points.

The Bears drove to a third-and-six at the Colts' 38-yard line, but Williams was swarmed in the pocket and threw incomplete. They opted for a 56-yard field goal from Cairo Santos off the right hash, and his kick was short.

The upside for the Bears is their running game got off to a decent start at 32 yards on 10 carries. That's not great, but it's a step up from how they looked last week against the Titans. D’Andre Swift opened with seven yards on two carries, and Roschon Johnson ran three times for nine yards.

Williams completed 3 of 5 passes for 16 yards, including a seven-yarder to tight end Cole Kmet on third-and-six.

The turnover on downs gave the Colts the ball at their own 46-yard line, but the Bears' defense cleaned that up quickly by forcing a three-and-out.
