Romero is being linked with Real Madrid

The rumours linking Romero with a move to Madrid are starting to gather steam, with a number of outlets reporting that the Spurs man is one of the La Liga giants’ key targets.

This includes a recent update by Football Insider, who said that the 26-year-old is keen to compete for major honours on a regular basis and is thus not closing the door on a potential move to the Spanish capital.

The report explained that the Spurs vice-captain would be open to a move away from North London if the club do not show signs of progress this season.

Meanwhile, it was reported at the start of this week on GiveMeSport that Tottenham are even prepared to make Romero their highest-paid player by handing him a bumper contract in order to keep him off Madrid’s clutches.

Romano says Madrid have not made contact

However, Romano has said that Spurs do not have anything to worry about for the time being.

The journalist said on Caught Offside: “Cristian Romero continues to be an important player for Tottenham, and so it’s perhaps normal that we’re starting to see rumours about interest from other top clubs, with some fans asking me if there’s anything to the links with Real Madrid.

“However, I’m told that nothing is happening now. Romero’s contract could be a topic in the next months as Spurs of course want to keep him for the long term, but no active talks have started yet.”

Spurs Web Opinion

One would expect Tottenham to approach Romero’s camp over contract talks sooner rather than later but I would not be surprised if the centre-back is not in too much of a hurry to commit his long-term future to the club.
