Club add mammoth release clause to ward off interest from Tottenham
HITC reveal that Sporting Lisbon have added a huge release clause to the contract of winger Geovany Quenda after hearing about interest from Tottenham and other Premier League sides.
Spurs like the look of Geovany Quenda
Quenda only turned 18 years of age back in April but his reputation is already soaring, with many in Portugal seeing the teenager as a potential future superstar.
His exploits have now reportedly attracted attention from Premier League sides, with Spurs, Manchester City, Man Utd and Chelsea said to be queueing up for the player.
All of these clubs are said to be taking a ‘very close look’ at the pacy winger ahead of the January window.
Sporting do not want to sell Quenda
However, it is explained that Sporting do not want to lose Quenda as they see him as a special talent, who can follow in the footsteps of the likes of Luis Figo, Nani and Cristiano Ronaldo.
As a result, Ruben Amorim’s man have allegedly added a release clause of €100m (£84m) to the youngster’s contract.
Tottenham already have young talents like Wilson Odobert, Mikey Moore, and Yang Min-hyuk within their ranks on the wing, so it remains to be seen whether they want to invest even more in the position.
Spurs Web Opinion
Sporting can be notoriously difficult to negotiate with as Spurs found out over previous years during their talks to sign Bruno Fernandes and Pedro Porro.
I would be surprised if Tottenham get involved in a bidding war for Quenda. Do Spurs really need another young and up-and-coming winger? Probably not.
