Mets Minors Recap: Kodai Senga Tosses Scoreless Inning

For the second-straight night, the Syracuse Mets blew out the Charlotte Knights. The game featured the return of Kodai Senga, as well as Jett Williams and Drew Gilbert mashing.

Drew Gilbert and Jett Williams continue to lead the Mets offensively. Williams has torn up the Knights pitching staff this series during his first stint at the Triple-A level. He has gone 8-for-18, with four doubles and seven walks to only four strikeouts. Meanwhile, Gilbert launched his tenth homer of the year, his second in as many days. The 23-year-old has slashed .239/.337/.493 (.830 OPS) and has eight extra-base hits in September.

The big story here is Kodai Senga’s late-season return to the mound. Senga missed the entire first half of the season due to a shoulder injury. He returned to make a quality start against the Braves on July 26 but injured his calf.
Senga looked good on Saturday, striking out two of the four batters faced without allowing a hit or run. Due to the influx of offense and extended time between innings, Senga only pitched one inning (well below his 30-pitch limit).
Like Dom Hamel, Tidwell finished his 2024 season with two strong starts. His appearance on Saturday was his first time going six innings since August 16 and his second time this season with double-digit strikeouts.
The Triple-A Syracuse Mets finish their season on Sunday with a 1:05 pm ET game against the Knights. Mike Vasil is expected to be on the mound.
