The New York Liberty’s Beloved Mascott Ellie the Elephant Has Her Own Nike Sabrina 2 — and You Can Buy a Pair
The New York Liberty has the most stylish mascot in the WNBA, Ellie the Elephant. Now, she has her own Nike sneaker.
The team and the mascot revealed via social media on Saturday the Nike Sabrina 2 By Big Ellie, a new colorway of Liberty star Sabrina Ionescu’s signature basketball shoe. “Name a mascot with her own shoe? YOU CAN’T,” the caption to their Instagram post read. Aside from a photo of Ellie with her shoe, the post had fun videos of the beloved mascot inside Nike’s NYC headquarters designing the look.
Ellie’s court-ready sneaker is white and black, and features the team’s signature seafoam hue throughout. However, the highlight of the shoe is Nike’s iconic elephant print, which appears at the heel on both the lateral and medial side. Also, the “00” at the heel is a nod to Ellie’s jersey number, and the shoe is completed with tonal gray and black outsoles in a marble print.
In terms of tech, Nike designed the Sabrina 2 with plush Cushlon 3.0 foam midsoles that are contained within a firmer Cushlon foam carrier, as well as a Nike Zoom Air unit in the forefoot for energy return and responsiveness. Also, there are rubber outsoles underfoot with a new “S”-inspired herringbone pattern for multidirectional traction.
Ellie the Elephant joins the likes of actor Jason Sudeikis, who is a regular courtside at Liberty games, to have a Nike Sabrina 2 colorway.
The mascot’s take on the Sabrina 2 can be purchased now via Nike by You, the brand’s sneaker customization platform. The shoe retails for $160.
