The Bier Stube to close after this weekend
COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) -- A decades-old dive bar just south of Ohio State's campus is shutting its doors this weekend.
The Bier Stube has been open at the corner of 9th and High Streets since 1966. Last month, the storied location announced it would be closing ahead of construction plans for a high-rise apartment building.
In a Facebook post Thursday the owner, Craig Kempton, said he would "love to make another Bier Stube." Kempton also said he plans to keep everything inside the bar, including the jukebox, in case The Bier Stube can find a new home.
Kempton clarified he had no part in the sale of the land, and received no payout or settlement. He asked people to make sure they understand that part of the situation, saying the rumors have been difficult for him and his family.
The Bier Stube will still be open this weekend, and is cash-only through its closure. The establishment is also selling Bier Stube shirts to commemorate the bar. Those wanting to visit in its final days can enjoy the dive bar from 3 p.m. to 2:30 a.m. at 1479 N. High St.
