Ride the 7 train in new Queens Monopoly game

QUEENS, N.Y. (PIX11) – Take a very small journey around Queens in the newest New York City-themed version of a classic game, Monopoly Queens Edition.

A new Monopoly game inspired by the city’s largest borough will hit stores on Oct. 5, but it’s available for pre-order now for $44.99.

“Whether you've ridden the 7 train, crossed the iconic bridges, or flown into one of the city’s bustling airports, what matters is you’ve arrived in the world’s borough,” reads the game’s description.

The details of the game, made by Hasbro and Top Trumps, are still a secret, but some clues lie in the game’s description.

Gamemakers teased the inclusion of local sports teams and famed landmarks, possibly a nod to the Mets’ Citi Field, Flushing Meadows Corona Park and Rockaway Beach.

Queens businesses and landmarks will fill the normal Monopoly property slots with some nods to city lifestyle included in gameplay, like paying rent. But many normal rules will still apply, like paying taxes, landing in jail and going bankrupt.

Whatever the elements, the game is sure to be true to Queens’ culture – in February, the companies called on local businesses and organizations to nominate borough hot spots to be included on the board, the Queens Post reported

New York City has already inspired a number of Monopoly offshoots, like a Harlem game and a city game that lets you buy the Statue of Liberty. In Brooklyn Monopoly, players purchase McCarren and Prospect Park or train stations like Utica and Atlantic.

Over the summer, a locals’ New York City Transit-inspired Monopoly game drew attention online for its attention to details like the upcoming Second Avenue Subway line expansion and congestion pricing.
