Spurs half-time player ratings vs Brentford – A brilliant reaction after wake-up call
Tottenham Hotspur and Brentford have brought the curtain down on the first forty-five minutes of action in a high-tempo game.
The two teams are now preparing for the second half of the Premier League fixture, with both sides desperate to register a win and move up the table.
We’ve cast our expert eye over the displays of the Tottenham players over the course of the first half at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, where we have given each individual player a rating on a scale of 1-10.
Ange Postecoglou’s side head into the changing room currently leading 2-1, having come from behind after a Brentford goal within the first 30 seconds. Goals from Dominic Solanke and Brennan Johnson turned the tide for a dominant Spurs side.
Here is how we rated the Spurs players in the first half
Guglielmo Vicario: Almost caught out with the ball at his feet after failing to make the quick pass out from the back and very lucky to not be at fault for a shocking equaliser. 5.
Pedro Porro: Not much to shout about for the Spaniard, but a fairly solid first half. A couple of decent crosses, the usual progressive carries down the right, and hasn’t struggled defensively. 6.
Cristian Romero: Caught napping for the opener with Bryan Mbuemo sneaking in behind him to get space for the goal. Was also caught in no-mans land late in the half to give Fabio Carvalho the chance to get a shot off at Vicario. Needs to sharpen up. 5.
Micky van de Ven: Has made a couple of big tackles and interceptions higher up the pitch. Picked up a yellow card for a foul late on in the half and will have to be careful now into the second half. 6.
Destiny Udogie: Getting forward really well down the left and proving to be a dangerous presence in and around the edge of the box. Could very easily have bagged a goal and/or an assist already today. 7.
Rodrigo Bentancur: Fairly quiet half from the Uruguayan, with Spurs dominating in the more attacking areas. A couple of good interceptions in the middle of the park, though. 6.
Dejan Kulusevski: Brilliant in the press and a constant thorn in the side of the Brentford defence. Looks to be playing with freedom, occupying space out on the right and through the middle. Has had plenty of chances to get on the scoresheet. 7.
James Maddison: Heavily involved in everything good about Tottenham’s performance in the first-half; threading brilliant passes through the lines, appearing in the box for shooting opportunities, and really dictating the play for Spurs. 8.
Heung-min Son: Had a golden chance one-on-one with Mark Flekken but just held onto the ball a little too long. You have to think a goal is coming for the Spurs skipper, and he’s carrying the ball with swagger and confidence. 6.
Dominic Solanke: Finally bagged his first Spurs goal, and while it was a simple one, it was highly important. A couple of half-chances since then to add to his tally, but he’s in the right spots and looking hungry for more. 6.
Brennan Johnson: Saw a decent chance go just past the post early on. Scored from a near-identical postion just before the half-hour mark with a lovely finish across the keeper. Looks confident and happy once more. 7.
