Dominic Solanke feels confident after his first goal

The club’s record signing has had a stilted start to his Spurs career. After failing to score against Leicester and picking up an ankle injury, Solanke had been on the sidelines for a few weeks.

He returned to action against Arsenal, and played a part in the win over Coventry in midweek, but it was against Brentford that he finally got off the mark.

After a James Maddison effort was saved by Brentford keeper Mark Flekken, Solanke was in the right place at the right time to slot home and register his first Spurs goal.

Discussing that moment with the BBC, he said: “[It feels] fantastic. To get the win here meant a lot to all of us. We have had some great performances to start the season but haven’t managed to get them to match that so today we wanted to mix them both together. Today we did that.”

Now feeling confident, Solanke added: “As a striker, it’s always important to get that first goal and I managed to get that today which I’m happy with so hopefully I can continue in this way.”

Spurs needed team spirit to beat Brentford

Spurs took the lead in the first half thanks to a brilliant finish from Brennan Johnson, and Solanke was full of praise for his teammate.

Discussing Johnson’s goal, he said: “It’s magnificent and Brennan is a great player. In the last two games, he has had two great finishes and helped the team massively so great credit to him. We’re all happy for him.

“Everyone in the team loves and helps each other so it’s a great spirit.”

The Lilywhites needed to dig deep to get the win, and every player in the team played their part. Commenting on the overall performance, Solanke added: “We have been playing well all season but sometimes you don’t get the results you deserve, but if you keep going, keep sticking at it and playing the way we want to play it’s going to happen.”

Solanke and Johnson can feed on this confidence

Now he’s got that first goal, Solanke could well press on and bag lots more for Spurs as he will be feeling very confident, and he showed all the signs that he will be in the right places for the team.

The same goes for Johnson, who will be buzzing after this week, and he seems to have got the fanbase back on side, too. Hopefully, these players being happy and confident can lead to great things.
