Pakistan and Tajikistan officials hold talks on Afghanistan

0

The Ambassador of Tajikistan to Islamabad has held talks with Pakistan’s Defense Minister regarding the situation in Afghanistan.

Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement on Friday, September 20, saying that Tajikistan’s Ambassador, Yusuf Sharifzoda, and Pakistan’s Defense Minister, Khawaja Muhammad Asif, discussed Afghanistan’s current military, political, economic, and social conditions, which directly impact regional security.

The statement mentioned that both sides also discussed aviation security and military-technical cooperation between the two countries.

While other Central Asian countries have good relations with the Taliban-led government in Afghanistan, Tajikistan’s relationship with the Taliban remains strained.

Pakistan and Tajikistan are two important neighbors of Afghanistan. After the Taliban took control, many officials from the previous Afghan government fled to Tajikistan.

According to experts, Tajikistan and Pakistan now share a similar approach towards Afghanistan. Senior officials from both countries criticize the Taliban regime in international meetings and conferences.

Both countries emphasize the need for a unified regional response to ensure stability in Afghanistan, recognizing that continued unrest could jeopardize security and development across Central and South Asia.

Moving forward, enhanced cooperation between Pakistan and Tajikistan is seen as critical to addressing shared concerns regarding terrorism, drug trafficking, and cross-border security challenges emanating from Afghanistan.
