'Can we say, chicken?' Critics question Trump's latest excuse for not debating Harris

0

Donald Trump explained Saturday why he won't be debating Vice President Kamala Harris again, and critics aren't buying the reasoning.

Trump, who was widely seen to have been beaten by Harris at their first and only formal face-off on the debate stage, held a rally in Wilmington, North Carolina, over the weekend. At that event, he attempted to explain away why he has rejected subsequent debate challenges from the V.P.

"Kamala and her group have seen what's happening to their campaign and it's not going well for them, and they would like... to do another debate," Trump said. "Although, good entertainment value... I've already done two... The problem with another debate is it’s just too late. Voting has already started."

Former NBA and University of Kentucky player Rex Chapman questioned Trump's stated reason, saying, "He said he doesn’t want to debate again 'because voting has already started.'"

"Then why is he doing rallies??" Chapman asked.

Kelsie Taggart, digital media director for the Democratic PAC American Bridge, also had a question for the former president.

"Earlier this summer Trump staffer said, 'President Trump will debate any time, any place, anywhere. He'd be happy to debate her on any stage multiple times.' What changed?"

Attorney Jeffrey Evan Gold also chimed in, saying, "But but but..." along with a GIF of Hei Hei the Rooster from Disney's Moana.

TV commentator Kelly Hyman had this to say:

"Can we say, chicken?"

Author Tomer Rozenberg said in response, "Avoiding the debate won’t stop the votes from speaking louder than words."
