A plane was forced to make an emergency landing after a horrified passenger found a mouse in their in-flight meal.

The Scandinavian Airlines (SAS) flight was heading from the Norwegian capital of Oslo to Malaga in Spain when the rodent was discovered.

Instead the plane had to divert to Copenhagen for safety reasons.

One passenger, Jarle Borrestad, said on Facebook: ‘Believe it or not. A lady next to me here at SAS opened the food and out jumped a mouse.

‘Now we have turned around and landed at CPH [Copenhagen Airport] for flight changes.’

It’s not known if the mouse was spotted again after leaping out of the meal.

Airlines cannot allow rodents on board to prevent electric cables being chewed and damaged.

Passengers were later flown to Malaga on a different plane, the Independent reports.

Airline spokesperson Oystein Schmidt said: ‘This is something that happens extremely rarely.

‘We have established procedures for such situations, which also include a review with our suppliers to ensure this does not happen again.’

On Sunday, US airline Delta was forced to apologise to passengers and make an emergency landing after the cabin failed to pressurise.

At least 10 passengers suffered injuries including bleeding eardrums and noses, and headaches.

Panic ensued on the flight from Salt Lake City to Portland, Oregon, and paramedics met passengers at the gate after the plane landed.
