Hamilton Academical 3 Queen’s Park 0

0

Despite having the majority of possession the wee Spiders couldn't find the net in yesterday's CAS Elite Under 18 League game against Hamilton Academical at ZLX Stadium.

Accies started the game on the front foot, pinning Queen’s back in their own half for the majority of the opening fifteen minutes. Alfie Lumsden and Kalvin Bennet were working hard to push up the park.

Hamilton opened the scoring in the 19th minute when Jack Bell latched onto a through ball, evaded the challenge of Jayden Riddell, to slip the ball over the advancing Rory Campbell and into the net.

Bell doubled Hamilton’s lead nine minutes later when he timed his run perfectly to meet a cross from the right and smash the ball into the net from eight yards out despite a last-minute challenge from Cole Burke.

Queen’s continued with a slow methodical build up from the back, moving the ball side to side, looking for gaps behind the Accies forwards. But with Hamilton’s high press space was at a premium and moving the ball out of defence was difficult for the wee Spiders.

Queen’s started the second half much higher up the park and had their first real shot on goal in the 56th minute when Nathan Lees intercepted the ball inside the Accies box, played in Connor Falls, who shot from 16 yards out, only to see the keeper pull off a superb save, diving low to his left to block the shot.

The second period continued with Queen’s having most of the possession inside the Accies half, but not really testing the keeper. Sam MacLachlan was getting some space down the right and delivered some great crosses into the Hamilton box, but a well organised Accies back line cleared most of the danger.

In the 89th minute just as Queen’s were throwing everything forward to pull one back, they were caught on the fast break. The ball was played long out of the Accies defence for their number nine to step onto. He drove forward and squared the ball to Jack Bell who had the simple task of knocking the ball into the net for his and Accies third goal of the game.

Bell adds his and Accies third goal of the game.
