Manu Bhaker to earn THIS much money from government for new role
New Delhi: Double Olympic medallist Manu Bhaker landed a new role in one of the ministries in the union government when the 22-year-old shooter was named as the brand ambassador of the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways (MoPSW). Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal made the announcement.
Bhaker created history at the Paris Olympics last month when she won two bronze medals – one each in women’s 10m air pistol and 10m air pistol mixed team. She could have added a third to her tally but missed a medal by a whisker by finishing fourth in the women’s 25m pistol event.
Daughter of a chief engineer at Merchant Navy, Bhaker became the first Indian female to win an Olympic medal in shooting and also the first Indian to clinch two medals in a single edition of an Olympic Games post-independence. “It is a moment of great pride for every Indian; and for every member of India’s maritime sector. Manu Bhaker, the daughter of a proud marine sailor, is now going to champion the marine sector of India as she has been officially signed as the Brand Ambassador of the Ministry,” Union Minister, MoPSW, Sarbananda Sonowal said.
Post her Olympic success, Bhaker’s brand value has shot up. According to a report in TOI, around 40 brands have approached the young shooting sensation to endorse them. IOS Sports and Entertainment’s CEO Nirav Tomar stated that Bhaker’s brand value has increased five to six times post-Paris Olympics.
Earlier, Bhaker used to get a deal of Rs 20 to 25 lakh a year from the brands. Things have changed now as the shooting star reportedly charges up to Rs 1.5 crore per deal a year. However, there has been no official confirmation as how much Bhaker will earn from the ministry but it is expected to around Rs 1 to 1.5 crore.
