Nicosia 2030 embraces tradition

0

In its bid for the title of European Capital of Culture 2030, Nicosia 2030 and the Nicosia International Festival 2024 are active with cultural efforts, hosting events and supporting initiatives that highlight tradition, music and dance. In this context, they are supporting the inaugural Antama Festival on September 28.

On Saturday, the Nicosia Municipal Gardens will fill with traditional Cypriot music, dancing and song as the festival takes place from 4pm to midnight.

“Antama is a group of young people who are dedicated to preserving Cyprus’ UNESCO cultural heritage. This festival seeks to revive the island’s rich traditions and reconnect locals with their roots. It promises a vibrant and immersive experience. Visitors will have the opportunity to engage with Cyprus’ fading cultural crafts, traditions and practices through interactive workshops and live demonstrations,” the Nicosia 2030 team says.

Cypriot youth music groups Kalesma, Maly and Nomades will perform island music and encourage dance feats inspired by the traditions of Cyprus and the wider Mediterranean. Traditional dance workshops will also take place as well as pithkiavli demonstrations, palouze-making and stalls with Cypriot food and drink.
