Scouting the Spruce Kings:

The Spruce Kings enter the 2024-2025 season with high hopes after finishing with a 16-35-3 record a year ago.  Alex Evin enters his 6th season as the Spruce Kings Head Coach, with Associate Coach Brad Tesink entering his 3rd season.

The Spruce Kings return nine forwards and three defenseman from last years team. Combined, the 12 returning players scored 64 goals and added 100 assists.

Oh Captain, My Captain:

The Spruce Kings have named Linden Makow the 23rd captain in Franchise History (BCHL).  Click HERE for the full story.  Makow enters his 5th season with the Spruce Kings, as he has amassed 35 goals and 35 assists in 143 career games.

ROSTER DETAILS:

2024-2025 Spruce Kings Returnees: 

Forwards:  Aidan Carolan, Vital Dinis, Owen Goodbrand, Carter Hesselgrave, Linden Makow, Brogan McNeil, Kazumo Sasaki, Skogen Schrott, Lucas Veilleux.

Defense: Trent Ballentyne, Evan Bellamy, Aidan Souligny

 

BCHL Experience: 

The Spruce Kings added a few key players from other BCHL teams this off-season as well to join the returning veterans.

Brock Cummings – 54 BCHL games with Cowichan Valley

Ty Paisley – 46 BCHL games with Salmon Arm

Maks Perčič – 44 BCHL games with Vernon/Merritt

 

Junior Experience:

Three acquisitions have spent time in Junior Hockey, but will enter their first BCHL season.

Forwards: Jared Coccimiglio – 167 games with St. Michaels (OJHL), Milton (OJHL), Philadelphia (NAHL), & Will Moore – 94 games with Johnstown (NAHL).

Defenseman Jayden Connors – 46 games with St. Michaels (OJHL)

Goaltender:  Carter Wishart – 58 games with Chippewa (NAHL)

 

New Recruits:

There are seven rookies on the Spruce Kings roster to start the 2024-2025 season.

Forwards: Brady Anes – Fox Motors 18U AAA, Mason Loewen – Cariboo Cougars U18 BCEHL, Ryan Wachtel – Brunswick School USHS, & Cooper Williams – Compuware U16AAA

Defensemen: Zachary Hachey – College Charles-Lemoyne QM18AAA, Brody Martin – Okanagan Hockey Academy U18

Goaltenders: Ryder Green (played 138 minutes over one BCHL regular season and two playoff games)

Scouting the OppositionSurrey Eagles

The Surrey Eagles are the defending Fred Page Cup Champions as they knocked off the Penticton Vees in 6 games. Cam Keith was the Head Coach, but has since moved on to Cowichan Valley, with Scott Gomez taking over the reigns.  Gomez was an assistant to Keith last season, and is a veteran of 1079 NHL games, plus 149 playoff games and two Stanley Cups. He is also an Eagles Alumni, winning the Fred Page Cup in 1997.

From last years championship team, the Eagles return six forwards, one defenseman, and two goaltenders.

Jaiden Sharma and Colton Jugnauth return to the Eagles after sharing the net with Ajeet Gundarah.  Sharma appeared in 16 Regular Season Games and 10 playoff games, finishing with a record of 20-1 with a 2.03 GAA and a .938 Save % as the Eagles went 44-8-2 in the Regular Season and 16-8 in the playoffs.

Up front, the Eagles six returning forwards combined to score 26 goals and 46 assists.
