News and Notes for Friday, September 20th, 2024

The Guardians beat the Twins in 10 innings, again, 3-2 on a walk-off hit from known Twins antagonist, Andres Gimenez.

Gimenez offered a callback to a famous move he did following a walk-off against the Twins in 2022:

And he had a word or two for Twins’ manager Rocco Baldelli:

Prior to that, the game featured another solid outing from rookie left-hander Joey Cantillo and more shutdown innings from MLB’s best bullpen. Eli Morgan deserves a special shout for his scoreless top of the 10th, but Nick Sandlin, Andrew Walters, Tim Herrin, Hunter Gaddis and Emmanuel Clase were all dominant, as well. I’ll be legitimately miffed if Walters doesn’t make the postseason roster.

Kyle Manzardo homered in the first. And, folks, there IS a little bit of Thome in this swing:

Manzardo and Gimenez both had three hits in the game.

Zack Meisel had a great write-up on this team and their accomplishments after the game.

Nicole and I talked about the playoffs and answered questions on the latest Disgusting Baseball podcast.

Don’t forget to listen to Guardians’ weekly. Jim Rosenhaus always talks to some interesting Guardians, this past week it was Lane Thomas and Joey Cantillo.

The magic number for the division is three and for the two seed, it’s four. Bring on St. Louis.

AROUND MLB:

The Astros beat the Angels.

Shohei Ohtani went 6 for 6 with three homers and 10 RBI, to join the 51/51 club. Actually, he has just now established its existence. What a player.
