Jim Jordan 'itching' to take Mike Johnson's job if GOP loses the House: report

0

If the GOP loses its existing majority in the House of Representatives this fall, House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-NC) will very likely have fellow Republicans gunning for his job.

Punchbowl News reports that Reps. Steve Scalise (R-LA) and Jim Jordan (R-OH) will likely take another run at being GOP leader should the party's majority fall in 2024.

When it comes to Jordan, Punchbowl News writes that "the Ohio Republican’s colleagues believe Jordan has been itching to make a move and would make a play for the top spot" should Republicans once again be relegated to minority status.

Jordan had previously tried to win the speakership last year but he went down in humiliating defeat as he watched more of his Republican colleagues vote against him on every vote.

Nonetheless, Punchbowl News writes that "those close to him say he’s learned from those experiences" and that he has "maintained a breakneck pace on the road over the last few months" by traveling "not only to staunchly conservative districts but also swing seats in New York and other states" and has even been campaigning "for Republicans who opposed him in his race for speaker."

Nonetheless, Jordan has a lengthy list of baggage, such as allegations from former college wrestlers at Ohio State University that he turned a blind eye during his tenure as a wrestling coach to them getting sexually abused by a team doctor.
