Judge shot dead in his chambers: governor
A district judge in Kentucky was shot and killed in his chambers Thursday afternoon, Gov. Andy Beshear announced Thursday.
"Sadly, I have been informed that a district judge in Letcher County was shot and killed in his chambers this afternoon," Beshear wrote on X.
He added: There is far too much violence in this world, and I pray there is a path to a better tomorrow."
The shooting reportedly prompted schools in the area to go on lockdown, NBC News reported.
Letcher County Central High School said it went on lockdown due to an "active shooting downtown" but emphasized children were "safe" and the shooter was in custody.
The Mountain Eagle reported that the officials said Sheriff Mickey Stines was arrested in connection with the slaying.
