Board blesses project
at former church site

The Planning Commission has approved a proposal to remodel the former Christian Science Church into a residence, demolish an auxiliary building and construct a two-car garage.

The project at 501 San Rafael Ave. requires variances and a revocable license for work in the right of way. The city received several letters from neighbors concerned that the proposed garage on the Acacia Avenue curb would reduce the already limited amount of parking in an area where many homes do not have garages.

The commission held a hearing on Tuesday and approved the plan in a 5-1 vote, said Rebecca Markwick, the city’s director of planning and building. Ashley Johnson, the chair of the commission, voted no.

Strawberry home plan
gets approval of panel

The Strawberry Design Review Board has approved a plan to demolish the residence at 153 Richardson Drive and build a new 3,606-square-foot house with a garage.

The plan underwent several revisions during the approval process, including a reduction in the roof height, said Matt Williams, the chair of the board. The structure’s height on part of the property will be 18 inches above the 30-foot limit.

Williams, who described the property as “a substandard, sloped and unique triangular site,” said the project will have “acceptable” setbacks of 20 feet from Richardson Drive and Ricardo Road.

The board approved the project in a 4-0 vote, with some clarifications and conditions, at a hearing on Monday, Williams said.

An Inverness resident was arrested on allegations he struck his roommate with a skateboard and a large flashlight.

The sheriff’s office received a report about the incident on Laurel View Way at about 1 a.m. Wednesday. The alleged attack happened after an argument, Marin County sheriff’s Sgt. Adam Schermerhorn said. He said the roommate suffered bruising and minor scrapes.

Anthony Michael Taravella, 32, was booked into the Marin County Jail on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon. His bail was set at $50,000.

Zoning official clears
plan to move house

A county zoning officer has approved a plan to relocate a Bolinas home to a new foundation.

The 2,275-square-foot structure at 105 Terrace Ave. was moved off its original foundation in December because of erosion at the property, according to a staff report by Megan Alton, a county planner. The structure is resting on temporary supports.

The relocation requires a coastal permit because it is within 50 feet of the bluff edge. The project also requires a setback variance.

A deputy zoning administrator approved the project during a hearing on Thursday, Alton said.
