Five Sky channels are now FREE for everyone on smartphones even if you’re not a customer

SKY is known for being a premium TV broadcaster but there’s a little-known way to get some channels totally free – and it’s totally legal.

You don’t even need to be an existing Sky customer.

The firm recently made a number of streamed TV channels available, starting with its own Sky Glass and Sky Stream devices.

But recently these were expanded to non-Sky kit for the first time.

While the big announcement was that you can access them on Samsung smart TVs, many may not realise they can find them on Samsung smartphones and tablets too.

The service is known as Samsung TV Plus.

Viewers can find thousands of movies and TV shows on the platform, available via live channels and on-demand too.

If you own a compatible gadget, you can download the app from the Google Play Store or the Galaxy Store.

From there, you get instant access to an array of channels.

Sky already had Sky Mix and Challenge available on the platform for free.

But smartphone and tablet owners can now watch the following too:

  • Sky Sports Stories
  • Sky Sports Classics
  • Sky Artist of the Year
  • Pick Paranormal
  • Emergency 24/7

Sports documentaries can be found on Sky Sports Stories, with EFL Rivalries to Her Huddle.

Special archive content like Premier League Icons and Premier League Legends can be found on Sky Sports Classics.

Meanwhile, Pick Paranormal is for everything supernatural, including classic episodes of Most Haunted.

Sky’s Emergency 24/7 channel features Highway Cops, Air Ambulance ER and Stop Search Seize.

Samsung TV Plus has a bunch of other well-known channels to watch as well, many themed around hit series.

There’s a channel that shows back-to-back episodes of The Graham Norton Show.

And you can see endless episodes of BBC series Homes Under the Hammer too.

The makers of U&Dave, UKTV, also have some streamed channels, including U&Laughs, U&The Past, U&Real Heroes and U&Transport.

Get more quality TV for free

By Jamie Harris, Assistant Technology and Science Reporter

If you’re tired of paying out on several streaming services like Netflix and Disney+ then there are a growing number of free alternatives around.

While many of these alternatives have been filled with obscure content, more big names like Sky have got on board in recent years offering some quality stuff, which is largely archive but still entertaining.

As well as UKTV, Sony and Channel 5 are among the other players getting involved.

If you haven’t already, give Pluto TV a go, it’s available on pretty much all devices including Fire TV Sticks.

On there you’ll find channels from MTV, with Catfish and Geordie Shore.

Some of the classics are real gems too – I found myself watching long-forgotten episodes of Sabrina the Teenage Witch the other day.
