Return Brewing opens Catskill taproom
CATSKILL, N.Y. (NEWS10)-- A new brewery opened its doors in the village of Catskill this past weekend. Return Brewing opened its second taproom, Return Outpost, in the former Crossroads Brewing Company building at 201 Water Street.
The brewery is owned and operated by four friends: Mikey Lenane, JD Linderman, Jack Liakas and Robert Wise. Lenane told NEWS10 the business started in 2021 at the Catskill building and continued to brew at the facility after they opened their own taproom in Hudson.
In May, Return Brewing took over operations in Catskill and made minor changes to the site. Lenane said even with the changes, the taproom still has the same neighborhood feel it once did.
"We wanted to keep the neighborhood feel but keep it simple and fun," Lenane said. The changes, he said, include a fence around the beer garden, updated wallpaper, new picnic tables, and a brief tree-trim outside for a clear view of the Catskill Creek.
In addition to being a taproom and beer garden, the space will continue brewing production. With full access to the brewing silos and production space, the Return team will have more freedom to experiment with different flavors, styles and collaborate with the current Catskill brewing community, like Left Bank Ciders.
Return Outpost opened on Friday Sept. 13 at 4 p.m. Lenane said there was a line forming at 3:59 p.m., when they finished all of the final touches. Since the taproom just soft-opened, in-house food and liquor options are not available.
However, he did say the business was in the process of acquiring a state issued liquor license and is working with different food trucks to come on the weekends. Lenane added the business would eventually do in-house food options but currently don't have a menu idea.
"The soft opening couldn't have gone any better," he said.
According to Lenane, Return Brewing hopes this space will bring community members together and will feature different events and highlight local activities in order to do so. The Outpost will host trivia nights, showcase local sports and will even feature local musicians on Saturday nights.
"We are just looking forward to being a part of the Catskill community and to support everything the community is already doing," he said.
Currently, the brewery is open Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Once fully staffed, the business will be open six days a week.
Return Outpost will be open Sept. 20 at 4 p.m. and again on Saturday and Sunday at 1 p.m. For updates on the taproom, including weekend hours, follow their Instagram, Return Outpost or visit their main account, Return Brewing.
