Oldish 470 is confusing me

I have just fished a 470 out of the eternal nettle patch and cleaned it up. Went to step the mast but the forestay was very tight and the shrouds were pretty bloomin tight (and running out of adjustment of the adjustment plates) with the mast almost out of the gate. Tried to pull the forestay down to shackle it onto the plate at the bow of the boat.
