Music Review: Bright Eyes’ 'Five Dice, All Threes' contemplates death, the Mets and much more

Bright Eyes’ new album, titled “Five Dice, All Threes,” is a sound and word collage. In a review, The Associated Press’ Steven Wine says the album is dense, dizzying and dark, yet catchy and engaging. He says Conor Oberst’s familiar, distinctive punk-folk tremolo serves as the aural anchor. Bandmates Mike Mogis and Nate Walcott provide accompaniment on instruments ranging from banjo and pedal steel to synthesizer and celeste. The Omaha, Nebraska-based trio draws from punk, power pop and classic rock, with sprinkles of jazz and hip-hop. Oberst sings about discontent, disillusion, death and the New York Mets. “Five Dice, All Threes” will be released Friday.
