09/18/2024: More Clouds, but Staying Dry

0

The Latest Storm Tracker Forecast from Meteorologists Matt Mackie and Kevin Appleby:

As has been the case for much of the past 7-10 days, we are waking up to temperatures mainly in the 50s with patchy fog in some spots. Clouds will continue to slowly thicken from south to north, but filtered sunshine will allow temperatures to climb into the upper 70s and lower 80s for another day. Low-end rain shower chances arrive for the end of the work week.

Cloud cover today will be generally thicker to the south of Albany today, with more breaks of blue expected up to the north. This is why Glens Falls pushes the low 80s, but Hudson, Kingston, Saugerties, etc. may get stuck in the mid 70s.

Clouds will continue their gradual northern advancement overnight tonight, with many outside of the North Country turning mostly cloudy by tomorrow morning. Even though clouds will be around, calm winds and just a few breaks in the clouds could support patchy fog again into early Thursday morning.

Thursday is far from crystal clear out there - our first mostly cloudy day in quite some time, as a matter of fact. While a brief shower can't be ruled out to the far southeast of Albany - i.e.: Columbia & Berkshire Counties, the vast majority of us make it through the day dry. Even in those aforementioned counties, only a few brief, light rain showers are the worst case scenario. Warmer conditions with slightly more sun are on tap up north, with mid to upper 70s for the rest of us.

Friday is the best chance over this stretch to see some rain showers - with a slightly enhanced risk southeast of Albany as a coastal low passes us by. While rainfall amounts across most of the region should be on the lower side, it could be more of an umbrella day in Berkshire County and points to the southeast. Temperatures will be a bit cooler, with most in the low to mid 70s. Mostly cloudy skies stick around for the first half of the weekend, but most of us look to remain dry out there with more seasonable temperatures expected.

Brighter skies return for the final three days of our forecast, accompanied by a more fall-like feel. This means cool starts with lows in the 40s followed by comfortable afternoon featuring high temperatures in the upper 60s to around 70 degrees. Fall weather lovers are going to love the start to next week!
