Guglielmo Vicario believes that Tottenham Hotspur have not got the rewards their performances deserve so far this season and is confident that results will turn around if they stick together.

The North London Derby followed a familiar pattern to the one Spurs fans have come to expect from the side, with the Lilywhites dominating possession but lacking the cutting-edge in the final third.

They were punished by a well-organised Arsenal side who bided their time and eventually got their goal from a set-piece, with Gabriel Magalhaes heading him from a corner kick.

This has led to a lot of frustration among Spurs fans, with some questioning on social media as to whether their current approach can deliver consistent results.

Vicario has now admitted that the players are hurt by the loss but called on his teammates to stick together, asserting that results will improve if they keep delivering a similar standard of performance.

The Italian told Spurs Play: “It hurts a lot. This (derby) is special for our crowd and we know this. Now we have to take the pain and disappointment, but football gives you every time another opportunity.

“Sometimes the performances don’t reflect your effort and how you play. For that, we just have to stick together because our moment will come because our football is good.

“Maybe we lost a bit, after they scored, of composure and mindset to stay who we are on the pitch, but we will fix it and take the rewards in the future. If we stick together, play this football with our focus, I think we will have a lot of victories this season.”

The 27-year-old also remarked that there is nothing wrong with Spurs tactically and is confident that Postecoglou’s methods will yield consistent results.

The goalkeeper added: “We have a brilliant coach, brilliant staff that can help us so we just need to stay together and believe in our football because we played such good games until now.

“(This) is a big defeat, we take the responsibility for that and now we have to prepare our best level for the next two games.”

We should not forget that Arsenal are one of the best sides in the Premier League and arguably in Europe. Even though they were missing a couple of key players, they were never going to be easy to beat.

I do not think too many teams across the Premier League will play much better against Mikel Arteta’s men this season than we did on Sunday, although our toothlessness in the final third is undoubtedly a worry.
